The Oklahoma City Thunder were the Seattle Sonics (and before that the Seattle Supersonics) until last season. This is their second year in Oklahoma. It wasn't a smooth move from Seattle.

I don't know of any legal way to watch all the NBA games for free, but nba.com has a couple of offers for viewing. They have a free preview for the next few days. See http://www.nba.com/leaguepass/online.html?cid=nba157 for details.

If nothing else, you can usually see highlights on either nba.com or ESPN.

It’s ironic that Turkish television would show an Israeli soldier raping a Palestinian women. I understand that such rapes have been exceedingly rare.

Regarding the cause of attack in LA: The Gaza war, like the war with Hezbollah in 2006, has been a rallying point for those who are anti-Israel. No, no one would become anti-Israel or antisemitic because of Gaza, but it is the latest in a series of events that has served to fire up “militants.”

My guess, however, is that saying the attack was a DIRECT result of the Goldstone report is an overstatement. The Gaza war is far better known to the public than is the Goldstone report, and even that’s a bit old by now. I think the police are right in exploring every possibility, but the Goldstone report is a long shot. Unless, perhaps, the attacker were a politically active Arab or Arab-American.

Did anyone watch the late show where an American Jewish activist and Mustafa Barghouti former information minister of the PA.
    http://www.thedailyshow.com/watch/wed-october-28-2009/exclusive---anna-baltzer---mustafa-barghouti-extended-interview-pt--1
Barghouti called the occupation longest in modern history. Has Barghouti heard of Tibet or Chechnya? The American Jewish activist condemned the fence while not mentioning that waves of suicide bombers that prompted the construction of the fence.

James, I'm glad you brought this up. I watched it and I was furious afterward. First, they purport to be some type of group that is unbiased, and trying to bring the two sides together peacefully, however, every statement from them was something to the effect that it's all Israel's fault. Mustafa Barghouti tried to downplay the terrorism by claiming that 90% of the Palestinian struggle during the Intifada was non violent. I'm sure the families of the victims who were murdered in restaurants and buses were consoled by that claim. They were so anti-Israel that Jon Stewart was presenting points from the Israeli side to them, and he is usually much more sympathetic to the Palestinian side than the Israeli side. One typical exchange - Stewart: "What about the cartoons on Palestinian TV that incite children to kill Jews"...Anna Baltzer's response: "The real question that we should be asking is...." as she changed the subject.

James you are absolutely right about the fence conversation.

There are 2 versions of this interview on the Daily Show's site - an edited version that was aired on TV and the full, uncut version, which is what I watched. If you watch the edited version, I'm not sure if you will see all of the points that were mentioned here.

As for the "ratcheting up" debate, each case is different, and this time it seems like the incitement caused the event, though it's impossible to say whether it would have happened anyway, as a pretext can be found for most actions if someone is seeking one.

Hi C&C! Once again, great show!
I’m very pleased to realize that the Brazilian chapter of the Israelisms’ fan club is growing bigger. Looking forward to learn that this is somewhat related to my constant, annoying emails I’m sending to my contact list about you guys…
Well, let's provide some inputs on how's Israel image down here in Brazil.
    1. Israel is brought to news mainly during local action involving IDF and the other guys and for those blasé spiritual footages. Local media coverage hardly used to be bipartisan and the EU approach was quite common, i.e., poor freedom fighters, damn Israelis. However, nowadays main broadcasters have their own guys living in Jerusalem or Tel Aviv, so current coverage is starting to get less biased, whatever that means.
    2. Currently, however, we see more of Israel on screen. Israel is about to become the first non-regional party to the Mercosul Agreement, i.e., a sort of NAFTA assembling Brazil, Argentina, Uruguay and Paraguay. This is finally attracting a better, more sophisticated focus of Israel as a technology and interesting business partner. IL’s local Embassy is quite active, as well as the bilateral chamber of commerce. Personally, as a technology, Intellectual Property attorney, this could not be better, since I’m having the chance to talk about Israel from a professional standpoint, which is way easier than the personal one.
    3. Last year we received the foreign minister (I don’t really want to write his name). That was a wasted visit. Angry and unsympathetic, the guy’s official visit (supposed to act an extra push to the Mercosul thing) was full of bad press. I’m sure that the Iran’s guy visit will potentially attract audiences fifty times bigger. Yes, that’s right. Neturei Karta’s best friend will be received by Lula (Brazil’s President) in the next weeks and his projected tropical experience is already making some people uncomfortable. Strangely enough, the human rights folks are not very upset about this (to say the least) awkward visit to Brazil. I assume it’s comprehensible, since they must be occupied still applauding the Goldstone Report.
    4. Finally, discussing Israel is still synonym of discussing Judaism, which is still synonym of orthodox followers. So, whenever you heard of Israel, there you also will have images of the not-sure-if-they-look so-friendly haredim. In fact, less than a week ago this so-called Israeli Rabi was extradited from Brazil to Israel and that, once again, brought bad press.
I will keep trying to provide a Brazilian perspective for the best couple in the whole podsphere! Eventually we’ll set a remote connection and talk more about this!
Have a great week, guys! Looking forward to get the next file, as usual!

In the Yewwwww.... (or EU), we changed to winter time on the night between October 24 & 25. As for Halloween, it is not celebrated the same way as in the USA. Few kids now dress up and get some candy around their neighborhood, but it's sporadic. Some pubs and night clubs organize Halloween events, and people dress up. There always a good excuse to celebrate.

Oh, who's the naive one, Charlie? You do remember the 2006 attack on the Seattle JCC, right? I seem to remember the "trigger cause" of that being the Second Lebanon War. So no, it isn't out of the question that a similar reason could be for the LA synagogue attack. Now, I don't know whether the remark made by the Likud MP was stupid or not, but to dismiss the supposition as "implausible" and "overreacting" is stupid and dangerous.

Mike, I watched the full unedited interview. Overall very disappointing. Liked how Stuart provided some balance like mentioning Jews who were expelled from Arab countries after the war of independence. Longest occupation in modern history should have been questioned. China has occupied Tibet since 1950. Kashmir has been occupied by India and Pakistan since 1947. Oldest occupation would have to be Chechnya which Russia annexed in 1859. One unknown fact is that the entire Chechen population was deported to Siberia during WW2 by Stalin. The Oath: A Surgeon Under Fire by Khassan Baiev is a great book about the Chechen conflict. He should win a noble peace prize.
